Network Planning, Engineering, and Operations

Commercial and government enterprises, as well as telecommunications service providers, confront significant challenges regarding the cost, risk, operational integrity, security and performance of their networks. OPNET has successfully delivered advanced network planning, engineering, and operations solutions enabling our clients to be far more effective in addressing these complex challenges.

OPNET offers a suite of consulting services specifically designed to enable clients to maximize the value from their investment in OPNET solutions. These services include software implementation, network analysis, system customization, knowledge transfer, remote or on-site administration, and on-site staff augmentation.

Examples of typical consulting engagements include:

  • Implementation of IT Sentinel or SP Sentinel solutions to perform configuration audits of client production networks and automated reporting of configuration errors that can impact network availability, performance, and security.
  • Deployment and customization of IT Netcop and SP Netcop solutions for real-time network visualization, including topology, traffic and status, as well as integration with third party data sources and management systems.
  • Network planning and engineering studies, leveraging IT Guru Network Planner or SP Guru Network Planner for capacity planning, traffic engineering, network migration, MPLS and VPN deployment, transitioning to IPv6, and VoIP pre-deployment planning.
  • Managed services, entailing complete outsourcing of OPNET software and hardware, implementation, customer facility integration, knowledge transfer, analysis, and reporting. This service comprises daily management with on-site and/or remote consulting services.
  • Remote and on-site administration services for VNE Server, IT Sentinel, SP Sentinel, and NETCOP implementations.
  • Customization via tailored VNE adaptors to third party network monitoring and management systems, as well as implementation and integration of custom workflows, reporting and IT best practices.

Network R&D

OPNET's consulting engineers are available to support R&D planning for complex networks that leverage the latest technologies and protocols. Our staff has an in-depth understanding of networking technologies (e.g., IP, Optical, Satellite, and Wireless), protocols (e.g., IPv6, MANET, MPLS, QoS, WiMAX, WLAN, etc.), and optimization techniques. This knowledge, combined with enabling technologies such as hybrid and discrete event simulation, system-in-the-loop, 3D visualization, and a comprehensive model library of devices, applications, and protocols, allows OPNET to rapidly model and analyze sophisticated networks to optimize performance. OPNET will also develop custom device and protocol models not currently supported in the OPNET standard model library.
