Cisco Implements MIL 3's Decision Support Software to Accelerate New World and Customer Implementation

IT DecisionGuru to Provide Virtual Proving Ground for Cisco's New World Technologies and Architectures; OPNET Modeler to Accelerate Product Design

Washington, DC -- November 1, 1999 -- MIL 3, Inc., a leading provider of decision-support software for networks and applications, today announced that Cisco Systems has selected MIL 3's OPNET Modeler and IT DecisionGuru software solutions to accelerate the design and deployment of switching and routing products from Cisco's family of New World operations solutions for Internet service providers.

MIL 3 Modeling and Simulation Software to Save Cisco Time and Money

OPNET Modeler and IT DecisionGuru are being implemented by Cisco to shorten development cycles and deliver New World hardware to Internet service providers faster and more cost effectively. OPNET Modeler accelerates the development process by providing a simulated environment in which to test protocols and hardware designs. IT DecisionGuru's virtual proving ground will be used worldwide to quickly and efficiently demonstrate the value of Cisco-based networks to Internet service providers.

"Simulation-based decision support is an additional differentiator for Cisco in the design and implementation of sophisticated networking systems," said Kelly Ahuja, director of marketing at Cisco Systems. "MIL 3 is a leader in network modeling and simulation. MIL 3's software can dramatically reduce design costs and speed product deployment by allowing us to test protocol behavior and simulate traffic flow in a limitless range of scenarios that closely mirror real-world ISP infrastructures."

The Future of Networking is Here and It's Being Developed Virtually

Specific technologies that Cisco is bringing to market faster with the aid of MIL 3's Decision Support Software for Networks and Applications include Dynamic Packet Transport (DPT) and multi-protocol label switching (MPLS). DPT is a new generation of transport technology that combines the bandwidth-efficient and services-rich capabilities of IP routing with the self-healing capabilities of fiber rings to offer service providers significant cost savings and functionality advantages over more traditional solutions. MPLS is intelligent traffic engineering that allows ISPs to satisfy customer throughput demands with minimal bandwidth consumption, dramatically reducing WAN expenses.

"MIL 3 is pleased to see Cisco recognize the invaluable role of simulation as a business tool to increase productivity, control costs, and accelerate the deployment of new technologies and solutions," said Marc Cohen, MIL 3's chairman and chief executive officer. "Cisco's use of network simulation is indicative of how all aspects of design, deployment, and operations of complex communication systems can be pro-actively validated in a virtual environment."

About MIL 3's Decision Support Software

MIL 3's family of Decision Support Software reduces the considerable cost, labor and risk involved in the development of networking hardware and systems, management of IT resources, deployment of applications, and delivery of communications services. The primary products are OPNET Modeler, for research and development, and IT DecisionGuru, for service providers and IT decision makers. Using advanced modeling and simulation technology, these products enable customers to easily and quickly understand the impact of a design or proposal and make any necessary adjustments before committing to a course of action.
