OPNET Joins Micromuse Alliance™ Program

BETHESDA, MD, -- December 17, 2001– OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of intelligent network management software, and Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of service and business assurance software, today announced that OPNET has joined the Micromuse Alliance™ Program as a Netcool® Marketing Partner™. The relationship will enable the companies to jointly pursue business and marketing opportunities.

"Our product portfolios have tremendous technical synergies," stated Marc Cohen, Chairman & CEO of OPNET. "We recognize the value of partnering to deliver solutions with greater scope and value for our customers. Micromuse makes an exceptional strategic partner."

In a recent edition of Trendwatch, Melissa del Casal of Hurwitz Group wrote, "Both Micromuse and OPNET have established reputations as reliable network and infrastructure management solution providers for major service providers, as well as carriers and enterprises. It is hardly surprising that their solutions are among those that are setting the standard for network management practices and differentiated management services."

OPNET 8.0 automatically generates models of networks from operational data to identify problems, such as mis-configured routing protocols, that can significantly degrade performance. This type of proactive problem identification is highly complementary to that provided by Micromuse's flagship Netcool/OMNIbus™ application, which provides realtime status information of the entire IT infrastructure, helping to maintain the uptime of business services. Once problems are identified, OPNET's technology validates corrective measures before they are implemented to mitigate the risk of further problems and to ensure efficient use of network resources.

The Netcool/OMNIbus application is ideally suited to provide baseline information for OPNET 8.0's virtual network environment, which enables a broad range of what-if analyses including routing optimization, new technology deployment, and failure studies.

"OPNET's technology for predictive analysis and automated design offers compelling additional value to what we deliver with the Netcool suite," said Jim Frey, Micromuse's Vice President, Strategic Marketing. "With OPNET in the Micromuse Alliance Program as a Netcool Marketing Partner, we will pursue joint business opportunities while exploring meaningful integration solutions within the Netcool Ready program."
