OPNET
Introduces New Advanced Server Models
New Software to Improve ROI from Server Systems
by
Optimizing End-to-End Performance
BETHESDA, MD., September 10, 2001 --
OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT), the leading provider of intelligent
network management software, today announced the availability of new server
modeling software that enables IT professionals to improve returns on investments
in server systems and to optimize end-to-end performance of enterprise applications.
Tom Thompson, former Performance and Capacity Planning Consultant
at IBM Global Services, now a Principal Technologist at OPNET Technologies,
stated "Enterprises and consulting services firms will now for the first
time have an integrated environment for doing detailed architectural trade
studies that take into account complex relationships among application performance,
server architectures, network protocols, and workload fluctuations."
The new Server Models leverage a detailed understanding of CPU,
memory, disk I/O, RAID levels, and workloads to answer critical questions including:
- How will investments in different components affect performance?
- Will a given server configuration support more users and/or new applications?
- Can the workloads of multiple servers be consolidated on to fewer servers?
- What is the performance gain by distributing web server applications across
additional servers?
- How will end-user service levels be affected due to server relocations?
- When will the infrastructure fail to support end-to-end application performance
requirements?
Milind Govekar, Research Director at Gartner states "The
lack of network and systems management products that have granular data and
knowledge of all the components of an IT infrastructure has been a major
inhibitor to effective performance management and capacity planning. Performance
management has to be viewed from an application perspective, and application
transactions need to be tracked end-to-end through the entire infrastructure
including client devices, routing protocols, network configurations, server
architectures and other components. Integrated solutions that address this
end-to-end requirement will have a big impact."
Availability
OPNET's new Server Models were demonstrated at OPNTWORK
