OPNET Announces New Software for 3D Network Visualization

n Multi-year agreement with MÄK Technologies
n Supports mobile wireless communications analysis for defense applications

BETHESDA, MD - August 5, 2004 --OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, today announced a new software module, 3D Network Visualizer (3DNV).

3DNV enhances the value of OPNET simulations for mobile wireless environments, and in particular for defense networks. The new module provides the following benefits:

  • Automatically visualizing mobile wireless simulations in 3D, including detailed terrain, performance statistics, and graphical representation of communications.
  • Accelerating the development of realistic scenarios.
  • Facilitating the use of modeling and simulation in operational environments.
  • Improving the competitiveness of engineering proposals, with powerful custom animations that support simulation-based analysis.

“We conducted early trials of OPNET's 3DNV software and found it to be highly effective in helping us analyze and communicate the results of our simulations,” stated Walter Whimpenny, Engineering Supervisor for Modeling and Simulation at BAE Systems. “Visualizing communication effects in a virtual 3D battlespace has improved our ability to share our technical solutions in a way that is both familiar and easily understood by our customers and management. OPNET's 3DNV module takes modeling and simulation to the next level by combining high-impact visualization methods with rigorous engineering simulations.”

The 3DNV module includes licensed software from MÄK Technologies, a leading provider of distributed simulation software tools for the training and analysis markets. Under the terms of a multi-year agreement, OPNET maintains an exclusive right to use MÄK’s proprietary software for visualizing network communications in 3D.

OPNET’s President & CTO, Alain Cohen, stated, “3DNV adds a new dimension to the modeling process, which we believe has broad applicability to our large installed base of R&D customers in both defense and commercial sectors. 3DNV is designed to integrate modeling and simulation with complex operations scenarios. Our customers are driving the development of important programs related to the military’s transformation to a network-centric paradigm. We selected MÄK technologies because they are recognized in the DoD community for their leading role in simulation visualization.”

Warren Katz, Founder and Chief Operating officer of MÄK Technologies, added, “The combination of OPNET's highly scalable modeling and simulation software for mobile networks, and MÄK's powerful distributed simulation tools creates an unmatched commercial off the shelf product for analyzing network-centric battlefield systems. OPNET, the clear leader in their space, is a highly complementary partner to MÄK.”

Availability
The 3DNV module is available immediately from OPNET in the United States.
