OPNET Introduces New Sentinel Products

Software Appliances for 24x7 Network Integrity and Security Assurance

BETHESDA, MD - August 10, 2004 --OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, today announced the availability of two new products, IT Sentinel and SP Sentinel, automated solutions that ensure 24x7 network integrity for enterprises and service providers. Configuration issues are widely recognized as a major source of network and security problems by leading technology analysts. Sentinel products perform regular configuration audits on the production network, exposing problems that can compromise availability, performance, and security.

According to Glenn O’Donnell of META Group, "Networks represent a real source of risk, due to their complexity and high rate of change. Enterprises and service providers alike have a critical need for better configuration assurance to reduce volatility and avoid outages. Hundreds of standard configuration checks incorporate published best practices from Cisco Systems, US government agencies, and others. Notifications are sent to operational staff for problems as they are detected, including device misconfigurations, policy violations, inefficiencies, and security exposures. Comprehensive results are published to an integrated web-based report server.
