OPNET Announces Acceptance Into EMC Smarts Technology Alliances Program

BETHESDA, MD– August 10 , 2005 – OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, today announced its acceptance into the EMC Smarts Technology Alliances Program. The program consists of a select group of vendors working together to deliver solutions that can be tightly integrated with EMC Smarts software. Applicants are only formally admitted into the program when their software technology adapters become commercially available.

As part of today’s announcement, OPNET unveiled its software technology adapter for Smarts. The software is available immediately and enables network data from Smarts -- including comprehensive (Layer 2/3) topology and MIB-based hardware asset information -- to be automatically fused with detailed configuration and traffic information within OPNET ’s VNE Server . The end result allows enterprise customers to improve network availability, security, and documentation for regulatory compliance.

Todd Kaloudis, OPNET’s VP of Business Development & Marketing, explained, “ In addition to real-time management functions, EMC Smarts also provides a rich source of multi-vendor network connectivity data. With this information, OPNET can automatically analyze a comprehensive model of the network to identify configuration errors before they lead to bigger problems. Availability
The OPNET adapter for Smarts is available immediately and supported with the integration of EMC Smarts version 6.1 or later, and OPNET’s VNE Server version 3.0. VNE Server is compatible with IT Guru Suite version 11.0 and IT Sentinel version 11.0.
